Ahhh how do the Amish make it??

Cook Yourself Thin! no, REALLY!

Cook Yourself Thin is a tv show (and recipe book) that teaches you how to cook some of your favorite meals-the RIGHT way. For example, your favorite fattening food is MASHED POTATOES! YUMMMMMMMMMY! Its also filled with tons and oodels and millions of carbs and fat grams so... instead, what if we were to split all that into 1/3 of the nutritional value? This is how you do it. CAULIFLOWER! Yes. You heard me. Cauliflower. It looks, tastes, even SMELLS like mashed potatoes after its boiled/steamed. So mix a few boiled potatoes with lots of bolied cauliflower, add your margarine or i prefer "I cannot believe its not butter" and seasoning and you wont tell the difference! I couldnt and i HATE cauliflower. Check out the site and books or tv show to get the down-low on your favorite dish. Just because you sacrifice the calories does not mean you gotta skimp out on the taste! Good luck!

Dont Judge a Book By Its Cover

This really bugs me. A lot of folks tend to make opinions about people, things, and places by pure sight and looks alone. But how much do you actually miss out on when you do so? A lot of generalizations start when someone looks at another person, or place, or thing and automatically makes assumptions. For example, there is a "hole in the wall" restaurant that I never would try because..well..it looked like crap. But when a friend actually told me to go there and I did, it was one of the best places ive ever eaten!

As far as things, I am one of those folks who likes to purchase the "off brand" or cheaper brand of items such as Good Value foods, or Equate products/meds, and I even like shopping on eBay and thrift stores and most of the time the cheaper product has the SAME value. Our Vizio flatscreen is just as durable as our Sony in the living room. No difference.

Now onto judging people..how many of you have made a generalization based on something you didnt like about somebody? I think we're all guilty of that! (haha) but what about the way a person looks. Just because they may not dress as fine as another person does not mean they are poor. Personally if I could wear shorts or sweatpants everyday for the rest of my life i probably would do so. What about physical self expression such as un natural haircolor or piercings or tattoos? Most people think of Goths or bikers or "bad people" when they think of those ways of self expression, but I have tattoos, I have dyed my hair strange colors, I have had piercings, does that make me trashy or bad? No. It doesnt make anyone that way.

Now i dont really understand the racial sterotypes, but lets use my ethnicity as an example because i find it amusing:

-People often refer to ALL asians as "Chinese"

-we are also called "oriental"

-we are known as bad drivers which is true to some extent (haha)

-we are known to all work in nail shops

-we are all known to have some kind of accent

I am partly Korean and I can tell ya that most racial stereotypes arent true lol.

Needless to say, get to know someone, someplace, or something before you let their appearance fool you!

Go to http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/MS17.html to adopt and read about adopting a pet in need today..

Last summer I took my grandma to pick out a dog to adopt for her birthday. The animal shelter is such a sad place because there are so many animals yet so little volunteer owners to keep them. The shelter is not only the best and cheapest place to get an animal., but it is also the best way to keep the number of animals multiplying low. Costs usually ranges about $70 depending on your local shelter. Here in Hattiesburg, Ms we have the Southern Pines Animal Shelter that has primarily dogs and cats. Most of them are neutered/spayed, have most of their shots, and include a microchip. Our dog that we adopted is playful and fill of life. I would certainly adopt again!

Here are some facts about pets and adoption:

-Did you know that approximately 4 million adoptable dogs & cats are killed each year due mainly to overpopulation? Did you know that 25-30% of dogs for adoption in animal shelters are purebred? The other 70-75%, of course, are lovable, wonderful mixed-breed pets, just waiting for a chance to be your perfect new friend.
-In an effort to help people make good choices when they adopt a dog or cat, many humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescues provide adoption counseling to help match you up with a pet for adoption.
-If you have your heart set on a specific breed, before you check out a dog breeder or pet store, why not adopt a pet from a breed rescue organization? Breed rescues are groups that specialize in a particular breed of dog or cat.
-Don't be fooled into thinking that animal shelters and pet rescues are filled with dog or cats that were discarded because they're "bad". Shelter pets for adoption are wonderful companions who became the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners.
-Did you know that many backyard dog breeders and pet stores who supply the majority of purebreds simply are selling inbred pets without care for preventing genetic problems? Mixed breed pets have less inbreeding, generally less inherited genetic disease, and therefore overall lower vet bills and happier pets! And the best place to find a mixed breed dog or cat is at an SPCA, a humane society or an animal shelter.

My Daily Activity/Shopaholics

This -->
is where you can find me from about 11am-4pm most days. Retail is a very very crazy/serious business but luckily i work in the back as the freight coordinator so i dont have to deal with folks. Unboxing and folding is all that i do. Sounds simple? Not quite! I also am in charge of shipping items to other stores, keep track of items recieved, and so on.. but it does get sorta old. I do sometimes miss working at my old job at quiznos because we were like a tight knit family, but theres something different about the way customers treat you when your conjuring up a sandwich.

In other news, from my experience in working retail i have noticed that people will buy on impulse and become a "shopaholic." Personally I am a huge fan of shopping, but if my clothes arent torn, stained, or too small then I will keep them forever!~ I have flip flops from the 7th grade in my closet that still fit (lol). But the clothes that I do not choose to continue wearing, I usually give to the salvation army stores so others can find use in them. =)

The Pink Agenda (TPA) is an organization of young professionals committed to raising money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the country's most effective and efficient breast cancer research and direct care service organizations. We hope that our efforts will not only expedite the eventual discovery of a cure for the disease, but that the awareness we raise amongst those in our generation will result in earlier detection, as well as an understanding of where to go for support and resources if ever faced with a breast cancer diagnosis.
The Pink Agenda is committed not only to raising money for breast cancer research by soliciting donations from individual and corporate sponsors, but also to increasing young people’s awareness of the disease. By hosting events in cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, we’re bringing our message—and a whole lot of fun—to a new generation of philanthropists."

Going to Nursing School..Again

Okay so i am currently awaiting entrance into JCJC Lpn program for the 2nd time around. I was in the program last fall but failed out a couple days before the end of my first semester because I did not take it seriously as i should have. I reapplied for this fall and am waiting to get a letter around July 1st that will determine whether or not I get back in. Ahhhh. I am so nervous because I do not want to fail again! And school costs sooooooooo much these days. Getting no financial help from parents is hard enough but when i cant qualify for financial aid-things get worse. I am hoping to receive a loan so please keep me in your prayers! If i make it through this year my granduation date will be July 2010 woohoo! Will keep you posted..

First Post!
